Walking, Cycling & Recreation

A key aspect of the design is to reduce the use of vehicles, encouraging residents to take advantage of the pathways, trails and green spaces within the safety of the development promoting a ‘safe community’ philosophy.

A number of community recreational areas and reserves have been created throughout Shotover Country and cycle and walking trails provide access to Lake Hayes and the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers.

The new Queenstown Trail, which traverses 110km around the Wakatipu, can be accessed from Shotover Country and leads to Lake Hayes, Arrowtown and Gibbston where cyclists can visit wineries or stop over for refreshments.

The trails also provide safe access to the neighbouring Lake Hayes Estate and Quail Rise residential developments. The trail through Shotover Country is built to National Cycle Way Standards.
